About Genaro F. Fernandez, MD, FACC

Dr. Genaro Fernandez grew up in Tampico, Mexico and moved to the US in high school. He
stayed in Southern California for college before attending medical school at the University
of Colorado followed by residency at the University of Utah. He was a hospitalist in Utah
for a few years prior to doing fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease and then Interventional
Cardiology at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. He then did a structural
cardiology fellowship at the University of Minnesota. He and his family are very excited to
move away from the cold after many long winters.

Dr. Fernandez is clinically interested in complex coronary arterial disease, peripheral
vascular disease, cardiomyopathy and cardiac valvular disease. His skills include coronary
angiography, angioplasty and stent placement from a trans-radial approach as well
peripheral arterial interventions, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, left atrial
appendage closure and less invasive percutaneous mitral valve repair. He is excited to join
an esteemed group with a great reputation and making San Diego his home again. He is
